It’s crazy to think, but before we know it college football will have a 12 team playoff format.

The committee has been toying around with the idea for a couple of years now, and as of last fall, we now have a 12-team College Football Playoff coming our way in 2024 and 2025.

Of course, this raises a lot of questions considering there are so many teams. Will more players who have a high NFL draft stock decide to opt out of these games? Are there concerns for the players’ safety? Will there even be any fans in the stands by the time the National Championship rolls around because nobody can afford to keep spending that kind of money?

As a huge college football fan, I’m stoked to know that there will be more football to watch in the next couple seasons, but there are definitely some cons sitting in the back of my head.

Regardless of what anybody else thinks, it’s coming, and we now have a format to look at in thanks to The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach.

She gave the layout of the first round games:

And for “weeknights,” they will be on Friday:

And on top of that, she was also given an example in bracket form of how this format will be laid out:

Get ready, because 2024 is going to be a wild ride for college football.
