Cody Johnson Puts Together Fantastic Rendition Of “Human” At 2023 CMT Music Awards

Cody Johnson had himself a night at the CMT Awards last night at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

He closed out the night with a fantastic tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd, as him, Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top), Slash, Chuck Leavell and Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers), Paul Rodgers, LeAnn Rimes, and Wynonna Judd performed a medley of the southern rock band’s songs to honor the 50th anniversary of their 1973 debut album, Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd.

It was also an opportunity to honor the passing of co-founder and longtime lead guitarist Gary Rossington.

But Johnson also stole the show once again when he put together a fantastic stripped down performance of his hit “Human,” the title-track from his 2021 double album.

“Human” is already an incredible song in itself, as CoJo sings about past mistakes that built him into the man and artist he is today, and at the end of the day, he’s only “human.”

The chorus paints the picture crystal clear:

“All the headlightsAll the midnightsChasing all that empty, still ain’t got it rightAll the crazyAll the gypsyWell, I guess all I’m sayin’ is forgive meIf I don’t know what I’m doingI’m still learnin’ to be human”

Not to mention, Cody Johnson is one of the best live performers in the game right now, whether it’s his powerful speeches, or just himself and his acoustic guitar, the guy knows how to capture everyone’s attention when he’s on stage.
