The midnight drop of his first two releases has arrived, and it’s clear that Jake Worthington is pulling out the big guns for his debut album.
If you know anything about Jake, you know he’s traditional top-to-bottom. And this double song drop further proves that point. He’s released one heart break ballad (cue up the Whiskey Riff ‘Sad Country Songs Make Me Happy’ Playlist) in “State You Left Me In” and then doubled down with an upbeat track titled, “Next New Thing,” and dang if they aren’t both on repeat already.
“State You Left Me In” is a turn of phrase break-up letter written by Jake, Roger Springer and Timothy Baker. The song finds the narrator quite literally stuck in the same “state” he was in when his lover broke his heart, while he reflects on her whirlwind travels.
The song is summed up in the refrain:
“Hope you’re doing great, I’m still in the state you left me in.”
If you’re drawn to George Strait hits like, “She Let Herself Go” or “You Look So Good In Love,” this one is reminiscent of those old favorites.
In a complete 360, Jake also pre-released his seventh track from the album, “Next New Thing.” Jake again teamed up with songwriter Roger Springer on this song, which features all the Good Ol’ Boy favorites and some absolute standout music to match.
I’m talking steel guitar, piano, and a nice little fiddle solo…

Two songs in, and I already know Jake’s self-titled album is going to be 49 minutes of honky-tonk gold.
