Miranda Lambert Has Perfect Response To Awful Question Asking Her To Choose “George Or Willie”: “You Can’t Make Pick Me… I Need Both!”

This might be one of the most unfair questions you could ever ask a Texan…

And Miranda Lambert had the perfect response.

She was honored with the Texas Medal of the Arts Award for songwriting at a ceremony in Austin, Texas last night, which was originally supposed to take pace in 2021, but was rescheduled due to COVID.

She was one of 11 artists of all types honored by The Texas Cultural Trust, which also hosted the event to raise money to support the arts in education and cultural heritage.

And during her press rounds ahead of the event, a reporter asked her to pick between Texas icons Willie Nelson and George Strait

Truly one of the worst questions I’ve ever heard (and that’s saying a lot, because I’ve heard it all…)

But of course, Miranda had the perfect response, saying that was impossible because she “need(s) both”:

“Oh, that’s not fair! You can’t make pick me pick between Willie and King George. I need both.”

A girl after my own heart. I couldn’t have said it any better myself, truly.

She was able to decide between Matthew McConaughey and Tommy Lee Jones, though (she went with Matthew, spoiler alert):

Of the award, she noted how proud she was to be a Texan and from a place that supports and celebrates all kinds of art:

“All of us Texans are extra proud anyway, but the fact that this state really lifts up art and arts of all kinds and has a whole celebration for us to celebrate us, it’s really such an honor.”

Miranda also performed at the ceremony alongside her Marfa Tapes collaborators Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, appropriately singing “Two-Step Down to Texas” from their 2021 record:
