18-Year-Old ‘American Idol’ Contestant Impresses Judges With Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man”

American Idol

It’s no secret that country music singers have been ruling the American Idol world since it rebooted back in 2018 with Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan as judges.

In the past three seasons, we’ve seen the likes of Laine Hardy, Chayce Beckham, and most recently, Noah Thompson win, as they’re all country artists.

The latest season of Idol has kickstarted once again, and we were recently introduced to Colin Stough, an 18-year-old HVAC technician from just outside of Amory, Mississippi.

In the intro, Stough discusses how he was raised by his mom and now stepfather after his dad left the family, chasing his alcohol and drug addiction. He was raised on a property that has been in his family’s name for years and years, with basically his whole family living right beside each other.

He also admitted that he used to have an issue with letting stuff go from the past, but that all changed when he began getting into horses, and music in particular.

For his performance, he chose the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd hit, “Simple Man.”

Needless to say, the guy put together one helluva performance, displaying his distinct, gritty vocals for the judges and all of America to see.

The judges were left in awe of Stough’s voice, with Bryan even saying:

“This is what ‘American Idol’ is all about!”

Perry also added:

“Colin, you’ve got the magic in you.”

They then asked Stough to bring in his mother for when they announce that he was going to Hollywood, and she got to fulfill her dream of meeting Luke Bryan.

Keep an eye out on this one… he’s got some serious potential.
