I’m not sure if there will ever be a TV character quite like Kenny Powers again.
And for those of you who have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, one, shame on you, and two, you better somehow find a way to watch Eastbound and Down ASAP, because you won’t regret it.
Kenny Powers, who was played by Danny McBride, rocked our worlds for four seasons between 2009-2013, as he tried to navigate through the world of being a washed up professional baseball player in his hometown of Shelby, North Carolina.
For me growing up in South Carolina, I’ve probably met at least 10 people that are spitting images of Powers, talking about the glory days of when they played junior college baseball for Meth-Head Community College, but didn’t make it past one semester because “me and coach didn’t see eye to eye” (but in reality, they had a 0.4 GPA).
However, little did I know that there’s a current pro-athlete and celebrity that’s actually a spitting image of Powers himself…
I’ll admit, I would’ve never thought about this comparison in a million years, but now I can’t un-see it. Or rather, unhear it.
And it’s none other than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes recently went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the post Super Bowl win festivities the team went through.
Just like that, Mahomes immediately began talking about this “sickkkkk” afterparty, and rattled off names like The Chainsmokers and DJ Khaled, which he said was “every genre of music you need.”
One Twitter user immediately pointed out the fact that the QB was talking just like Kenny Powers would.
And then, another Twitter user blessed us all by posting a mashup video with Mahomes and Powers, and not gonna lie, I was laughing so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes.
Just see for yourself, and you’ll understand:
