On This Date: Reba Releases First Number One Album ‘Whoever’s In New England’ In 1986

Reba McEntire country music

It’s hard to believe it took Reba 10 albums to produce a Number One…

On this date in 1986, Reba released her Whoever’s In New England album, which contained the now iconic title track as well as other hits like “Little Rock,” both of which went Number One.

By that point, Reba had a strong standing in the country world, having won a CMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 1984 and 1985, but it was this album that sent her to superstar status. She went on to take home the Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance that year, and racked up 51 CMA nominations (second most for a female) and most ACM nominations for a female with 47 of the entire course of her career.

The project sold over 1,000,000 copies and was certified Platinum by RIAA in 1993.

By far, the most well known song on the project is the title track, which was also covered by Cody Johnson a few years back, and is my personal favorite of hers. The single went Number One and stayed on the Hot Country Charts for 23 weeks in total.

Hats off to the great Reba McEntire.
