Talk about an incredibly rare sight, especially for this time of year.

A dead and partially frozen shark washed ashore of an iced over beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts this past weekend.

A local photographer, Amie, was walking the beach when she stumbled upon the carcass, according to the New York Post.

The shark was discovered on Cold Storage Beach in Dennis around 2:30 PM, and the photographer, Amie Medeiros, snapped a picture of the creature laying lifeless on its side on the frozen sand, and took to Instagram to share the wild discovery:

“‘Ice contains no future, just the past, sealed away. As if they’re alive, everything in the world is sealed up inside, clear and distinct.

Ice can preserve all kinds of things that way – cleanly, clearly. That’s the essence of ice, the role it plays.’ Haruki Murakami”

The photos were WILD:

Although shark sightings spiked over this past summer in Cape Cod, which even resulted in beaches having to be shut down for a period of time after there were a few attacks that resulted in minor injuries, to see one washed ashore this time of year is pretty rare.

As for sharks themselves, they’re able to survive waters as cold as 40 degrees.

And while you’re at it, give Amie a follow… she takes some badass photos:
