Curious Black Bear Walks Right Up To Girl, Poses For The Perfect Selfie

Black bear people
ABC 7

What in the wild outdoors is this? A bit more than what you bargained for on your afternoon hike, I reckon.

Black bears are one curious animal. Sometimes too curious for their own good. They love to sniff around and get food as easily as possible. They are also known to become very comfortable with the presence of humans. Wherever there’s humans, there’s easy food. And once a bear discovers that, they will look through every garbage can they find and even break into a vehicle just to lick a wrapper left on the floor.

Bear encounters typically make a person on edge and will have you go into a state of pure focus, nothing else matters other than the bear standing in front of you. This woman must have ice water running through her veins though because she doesn’t seem to be the least bit concerned about it at all.

A black bear in Mexico walked right up to a woman that it was particularly fond of and began sniffing her all over. As the bear sniffs the women stays almost unbelievably calm. The bear sniffs her right up to her head as it stands up on its hind legs. She even managed to snag a selfie with the bear as it stood over her shoulder. The bear walks away but turns back and nibbles on her leg and takes a paw swipe at her while she stays just as calm as ever.

Staying calm in a situation like this is very important and was probably the right decision here. But that’s scary calm, my heart would have been beating right through my chest.

Bear Eats Elk Calf Alive

Nature is a cruel beast.

Often times the cutest and most vulnerable out there have very slim chances of surviving. Bears loves when it’s calving season. It’s the time when a good meal is easiest to catch. Sure, they could run the risk of having to fight and elk or moose mother, but usually, it’s far easier to take down a calf than it is a full grown elk.

And then sometimes, like this case, they stumble upon a lone calf and have the easiest meal of them all. An adult bear eats up to 30-pounds of food per day, might as well get it the easiest way possible to conserve energy for tomorrow when there’s no lone elk calf hangin’ in the grass.

A fair warning for this one… this is nature at its finest. If you don’t like the fact that these animals need to eat animals to survive, move along. The video starts with a fair size black bear wondering around with its nose to the ground, hot on the trail of something. A bear’s sense of smell is so strong that it can smell something up to 20 miles away.

The bear finally comes up on a the elk calf laying in tall grass, make its move, and just starts throwing it around.

The poor calk can be heard crying for help as the bear goes to town on it, but not help is coming. Nature can be a wild place. It’s pretty amazing seeing these giant bears hunt regardless of how violent they may be. It’s nature in action.

The bear drags the elk all around hells half acre all while its holding on for dear life, still kicking. The poor thing had a long and violent ending to a short life. But that’s what needs to happen out there to keep things in order.

To end the insane video off properly, there is extremely clear footage of the bear laying down and eating the calf, picking it apart.

It might be a little gross, but its also pretty freakin’ awesome in its own right.

Black Bear Gets Too Close For Comfort, Frightens Woman At Bus Stop

That would certainly give you a welcome to a new place.

British Columbia is definitely the place for that with one of the healthiest black bear populations in the world.

Black bears can grow to be quite large, with males typically weighing between 150 and 300 pounds but weighing as much as 600-pounds. Despite their size, black bears are incredibly agile and can run up to 35 miles per hour and climb trees like a pro.

Black bears have an incredibly powerful sense of smell, with some estimates suggesting that they can detect odors up to two miles away.

While black bears are typically shy and avoid contact with humans, they are also known for their curiosity. This can sometimes lead them to approach people or investigate human food sources, which can lead close and unwanted encounters.

This poor girl is seen sitting on a bench minding her own business at a bus stop near Whistler in British Columbia. A black bear walks around the corner and then straight up to her smelling her.

The woman is frozen in shock as she watches the black creature sniff her legs. An onlooker shouts over, letting her know it is okay and to just make a little noise so she doesn’t spook it. The woman talking is enough to send the black bear running off.

That is definitely not what a person is expecting when sitting on a bench in the sun in the middle of a town.

@nataliesgeo When encountering a black bear your safest option is to be gentle and make noise so it doesn’t feel surprised or threatened 🐻 #wildlife #BC #canada ♬ I would just like chill – Natalie Wannamaker

Black Bear Cubs Hilariously Try (And Fail) To Climb Into A Hammock

We’ve all been there as kids.

Your parents put up a cool swing in the backyard, and it looks like the ideal toy…

Until you try to climb into it and it flips over every single time because it’s a damn hammock.

Needless to say, that’s exactly what these black bears were going through once they noticed this contraption sitting in somebody’s backyard.

They appear to be relatively young black bear cubs, and out of curiosity, they decide to test it out for themselves.

And of course, it doesn’t end too well.

You see them try over and over again, attempting to keep their balance on the hammock, but they flip over every time.

Of course, as they say, if at first you don’t succeed, try again, so they keep going back until they figure it out (they don’t…)

This is the most pure thing you’ll see all day, and it further proves how innocent these creatures are whenever they aren’t threatened by a predator in some form or another.

Brave Man Slaps Black Bear Right Across The Face

One of the things about living in the country, or a rural area, a wooded area… you just never know what kind of critters are gonna be lurking in your barn, in your garage, or around the property.

Unfortunately for those in bear country, you’re dealing with one of the most dangerous predators, who also happens to be one of the most curious, COMBINED with the fact that it’s just tough to keep bears out of trouble.

Garbage cans, cars, sheds, barns… bears will find a way to bust into anything in search of food.

That being said, encounters are just bound to happen from time to time, and it’s all about knowing what to do when the situation presents itself.

Now, I’m aware that if you ever have a close encounter with a bear, especially a black bear, you shouldn’t run away from it, because that just gives it more of a reason to think you may be a threat and/or prey, and could trigger a chase response.

However, never in a million years would I have the guts to square up and throw hands with a bear…

But this guy did…

Video footage from a surveillance camera has gone viral featuring a man walking up to his barn, with a couple small dogs on a leash, only to find a young black bear hanging out inside.

Shocked at first, the man then appears to be overtaken, and goes full on demon mode on this massive creature.

A proper response to a black bear, he gets big, walks up, and starts roaring like he’d just gotten possessed in a scene from The Exorcist. But as the bear continues to approach, he delivers a swift slap across the bear’s face, and it immediately appears that the bear doesn’t want the smoke.

The guy continues to growl at it, which is enough to terrify just about anybody.

He gets a shovel and starts banging it to scare the bear off some more, before spotting some cubs and opting to hightail it out of there.

It’s uncertain where this happened at, but sheesh, you would’ve thought that this guy had been practicing for this moment his whole life.

He then turns around and proudly, yet shockingly, tells the woman he was with:

“I just sucker punched a bear.”

And she responds:

“Yeah, you did.”

Insanity.
