The music world was brought to tears by the news of Lisa’s death on January 12th, 2023 due to full cardiac arrest.
She was the only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley.
An outpouring of memories and stories has have been brought to light in the days since, including Dolly Parton’s heartfelt message to Pricilla, Lisa’s mother and Elvis’ wife.
Just yesterday her memorial service was held at Graceland, attended by family and friends which included musicians Billy Corgan and Alanis Morissette, and the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.
But one of the most emotional moments of the entire event was when Axl Rose got up and performed a piano rendition of Guns ‘n Roses classic song “November Rain”, as well as give a speech in remembrance of his good friend.
Before he performed the song, he had the following words to say.
“I’m still in shock… as I feel like I will continue to be for quite some time. I feel like I’m supposed to be texting her like right now, saying I’m here, telling her how wonderful everyone is.
I never, in a million years, imagined singing here, especially under these circumstances. This is truly devastating… and I’m sure excruciating for everyone here, and all of those affected by her passing.”
After speaking he was able to muster up the guts to get on the mic and lay down a beautiful rendition of “November Rain” for those in attendance, and for Lisa who I’m sure was listening from the heavens.
It’s a shame people most come together only through tragedy, but honoring a loved one like they were able to really is a beautiful show of solidarity.
