Glen Campbell’s Daughter Ashley Delivers A Knockout Cover Of “Gentle On My Mind”

Ashley Campbell

Something about kids performing their parent’s songs will always pull at my heartstrings.

The most recent one that has been making me a little teary is Glen Campbell’s daughter performing “Gentle On My Mind.”

This performance is from 2017 for Country Road TV’s Family Reunion, and Ashley Campbell is accompanied on the arrangement with Carl Jackson.

The arrangement for this cover is truly one of my favorites. Ashley is strumming her banjo, and the addition of drawn-out fiddle notes gives the song a fresh sound.

Carl Jackson takes the opening verse, and Ashely comes in after harmonizing with him on the remainder of the lyrics. Their voices together are amazing.

During the bridge, they break it down into a little jam session, and both Jackson and Campbell pick the hell out of their respective instruments.

This honestly might have become one of my new comfort videos.

Originally written by John Hartford in 1966, “Gentle On My Mind” was recorded for his sophomore album, Earthwords & Music, in 1967.

Glen Campbell loved the song so much, he record and released his version that same year, and it would go on to become one of his signature songs. Between Glen and John, the song would wind up taking up four Grammy Awards the following year in 1968.

The would later go on to be record by a number of musicians such Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley & more.
