Tanner Usrey’s ‘Truthful Sessions’ Performance Of “Josephine” Is A Must-Watch

Tanner Usrey country music

Tanner Usrey is quickly getting seen in the public eye these days, and for a good reason. The kid is super talented and is getting some good prime-time exposure from his song “The Light,” being featured on season four of Yellowstone.

Take a little walk back to 2020 to this phenomenal video of Usrey performing his song, “Josephine,” for the Truthful Sessions.

Shot near his hometown of Prosper, TX, this acoustic session in Pilot Point is stripped-down goodness.

The tune from his 2019 EP Medicine Man takes a deep look at the ups and downs of being with someone who struggles with addiction. Each lyric speaks cold, dark truths about the struggles of addiction and not wanting to see someone you love to lose that battle.

“So I’ll just stay here by her side
And I’ll hold you in my arms so damn tight
Wondering to myself, will we make it another night?
As you look up at the ceiling with a cold stare in your eyes
I can see your fate, and I can see you’re losing the fight…”

It’s morbid, yet moving all the same time.

Tanner Usrey’s talent is unbridled in this video, with little editing and production. The simple scenic background of ranchland lets each word shine as he sings them.

It’s so raw and so damn good.

Two years later, Usrey’s music still features his raw emotions with a more refined sound as he’s discovered himself more as an artist.
