Two Fisherman Land Catch Of A Lifetime With 110-Year Old Sturgeon

Massive sturgeon

This is what dreams are made of in the fishing world… it just can’t get much better.

A massive fish, an amazing fight and all your buddies around to enjoy it with you. That’s what we all chase after when we hit any water with a rod in hand.

Sure, it’s nice to catch any fish at all and a bad day fishing is better than a good one anywhere else. But, catching something like this makes life just a little bit better than it already is.

There’s just something about watching one these beautiful prehistoric creatures getting reeled in. Whether it’s dragging a kayak or nearly sinking one, they’re just a cool fish..

Alberta hunters Steve Ecklund and Mark Boise joined guides Nick McCabe and Tyler Speed, and went out fishing in British Columbia, one of the best Sturgeon fisheries in the world. They hooked into a monster and caught a good part of the fight on video for us to all enjoy.

The video shows the 10-foot and nearly 700-pound fish come out of the water on a massive jump.

It switches to the group reeling in the beast with some pretty great commentary.

“It’s better than eating ice cream, baby!”

Two men work together to pull the rod up and reel in as much as they can, time after time.

Talk about team work.

“It’s the buddy system, I don’t know if a guy could pull one in like this by himself”

They end up landing the beast that was estimated at 110-years old, and next to the fisherman, this beast makes three grown men seem small.

He detailed the trip on Instagram:

“A pair of newbies coupled with a pair of veteran River Monster guides (Nick & Tyler). What ended up transpiring was truly remarkable. Our last fish of the day ends up being the largest sturgeon caught in the company’s history.

TEN FEET ONE INCH in length was the tail of the tape, with an incredible 57 inches of girth.

This was a two hour straight up brawl on the Fraser River. This beast would definitely push 700lbs and be north of 100 years old! This isn’t just a fishing trip, this was a true hunt!

The guides covered more then 50km of river scouting for a true monster with the sonar equipment and once found… the tight lines came fast.

Huge thanks to Jeff and his crew here at River Monster Adventures for an unbelievable day that will never be forgotten.”

Helluva catch.

12-Year Old Hauls In Idaho Record Sturgeon

It’s always good to see young people getting into the great outdoors.

Seeing a young person having an amazing experience that they will remember forever makes it even better.

And then… hooking state record monsters makes it EVEN BETTER.

White Sturgeon are always amazing to see caught. Whether is a 350-pound from a kayak, a guide with a 10.5-footer, or a retired NHL player catching a beauty, these prehistoric-looking dinosaur fish are just incredible to witness.

A fish that can live to 100-years old and weigh up to 1,500 pounds, I would certainly be running to the river to try and catch one. Even if you don’t get a record catch, if its half way there its bigger than most fish.

According to KTVB, Tyler Grimshaw, a 12-year old from Idaho, tied the catch and release record for the state when he landed a 9-foot 11-inch Sturgeon.

Tyler went out fishing with his father and guide Joe Weisner, when he hooked into the beast and fought it for 50-minutes. Weisner was impressed by the catch of the day and state.

“A fish of this caliber, I mean, it doesn’t come around very often. I have caught and seen hundreds of these fish to my boat. It’s what I do for a living and this one was truly special … It’s an absolute giant.

“He stayed on that fish for 50 minutes, he was not giving up on it. He took the rod between his legs and he basically was squatting on the rod, just using his own body weight for leverage.”

Grimshaw the young fisherman that has been fishing for a while will definitely be even more hooked after this. He was pretty happy with the catch too.

“This fish was far bigger than anything I had seen before. I was at a loss for words.”

That’s what its all about.

A 12-year old getting a state record fish, something he will chase for the rest of his life now. Along with a story he will tell forever too.

Weisner and his crew measured the fish to confirm the record and they released it back into the river.

He summed it all up just perfectly.

“It’s just one of those moments, though, that it was truly, truly incredible”

Gotta love it.

If you wanna try some Sturgeon fishing in the Idaho area, give Jones Sport Fishing a call:

“Holy Crap! The White Wale! This beast taped out at 9’11” and tied the Idaho catch and release record.

This fish was also landed in 50 mins by this stud of a 12 year old young man! Such a cool experience.

We have sturgeon dates available. Will you be the one to break this record?”
