The CMA Awards are only a day away, and here at Whiskey Riff we’ve been putting together some of the most memorable moments leading up.

2017 was an eventful year as Garth took home Entertainer of the Year, but it was his “live” performance that had plenty calling him out in Twitter, and in the country music world.

First, there was Chief. Fellow Entertainer of the Year nominee Eric Church had an interview with Rolling Stone the following year, and had some strong words for Garth:

“We don’t use machines. We use instruments.

So the winner of the biggest category of the night lip-synced in the biggest moment on the show?

F*ck that! And I didn’t like his excuse at all.”

Tell us how you really feel, Eric.

And Church went on to call lip-syncing a “red line” that he’s never going to cross:

“It is and always will be a red line. It’s fabricated. I don’t want young artists thinking it’s OK, because it’s not.”

Here was Garth’s explanation…

Huh?

GARTH WHERE ARE THE BODIES!?

Church wasn’t the only artist who took major exception with Garth’s lip syncing – so did Miranda Lambert’s boyfriend at the time, Anderson East (by the way, crazy talented dude, check him out).

He took to Twitter to let the people know that is not country music.

Amen, Chief.

Amen, Anderson.

Trust us, you do NOT want to miss our live-tweeting of the CMA Awards. Follow @WhiskeyRiff on Twitter, and buckle up.
