Here’s to Loretta Lynn.
With the CMA Awards right around the corner, we’ve been taking a look back at some of the best, and most memorable, moments from throughout the 50-plus years of the show.
There’s the time Alan Jackson walked out in the middle of a Beyonce performance, Shania flirted her way to the stage during a performance of “Any Man Of Mine,” and of course, one of my personal favorite’s, the time Sturgill Simpson busked outside of Bridgestone Arena during the show with his Grammy trophy on display.
And back in 2014, Kacey Musgraves took the stage with the late, great Loretta Lynn to sing a fantastic duet of Mrs. Loretta’s “You’re Lookin’ At Country” at the CMA Awards.
Loretta wrote the song after being inspired by the open land across the United States while touring on the road, and it was definitely different from a lot of the topics she sang about in other songs at the time, like drunk husbands, cheatin’ and fighting.
It was also the title track to her album of the same name, peaking at #5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in mid-1971.
It’s so fun to see these two sing together, especially now that Mrs. Loretta is gone, and I really miss when Kacey was one of the leading female voices in country music.
Mrs. Loretta sadly passed away a few weeks ago at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, at the age of 90, and this years CMA Awards opening is set to include an all-star tribute to the late, great Loretta Lynn, which will surely be a highlight of the night.
What an all-time great CMA performance, full of teased up hair, including honky tonk heater sung by a pair of country queens:
This years 56th CMA Awards show will air live next week on November 9th on ABC, with Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan co-hosting live from Nashville, Tennessee.
They’ve announced Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Lainey Wilson, and more as performers.
