Lukas Nelson Puts His Own Spin On Sierra Ferrell’s “West Virginia Waltz”

Lukas Nelson country music

Lukas Nelson sure has a helluva voice.

As does his fellow artist, Sierra Ferrell, and he recently put his own spin on her song “West Virginia Waltz.”

From her 2021 debut album Long Time Coming, he noted in a video on Instagram that Nikki Lane recommended the song to him, and it’s one of his favorites at the moment:

“This is a song by Sierra Ferrell that I really like, it’s called the ‘West Virginia Waltz.’ It was brought to my attention by Nikki Lane, another good friends of ours.

And Sierra’s just a fantastic artist, and this is just a rudimentary version, this is a first verse and a chorus. But it’s called ‘West Virginia Waltz,’ y’all check her out.”

Lukas is a very talented artist, and definitely has touches of all sorts of genres in his music, from country to rock to blues, and I definitely think you can hear that come through even in this short, acoustic rendition.

I’d love to hear him cover the whole track, because it’s on of my favorites too:

“‘West Virginia Waltz’ by the talented @sierraelizabethferrell. Thank you for introducing me to this one, @nikkilane77.”

Sierra is a truly fantastic up-and-coming artist from Appalachia, so if you haven’t checked out her music yet, do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

I think we’re gonna need these two to hit the road on a tour together in 2023…
