Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder & Lead” Inspired A Fan To Shoot Her Abusive Husband: “I Got Off Because He Was Beating Me”

I’m going home, gonna load my shotgun… literally.

One of the hardest things about being a new artist (or even a lowly internet blogger like myself) is trying to connect with fans.

Maybe you’re building something special, maybe your songs are really connecting with fans, and maybe they’re not, but either way, it can be difficult to gauge the kind of impact you’re having.

Well, unless a fan straight up tells you that one of your songs inspired her to shoot somebody.

At Country Radio Seminar in Nashville a few years back, Miranda Lambert detailed one of the craziest meet-and-greet encounters she’s ever had… and I suppose probably will ever have.

According to People Country, a fan, who was being physically abused by her husband, was listening to “Gunpowder & Lead” when she worked up the nerve to actually shoot him.

She told Miranda all about it, and the conversation went a little something like this:

“This lady actually came up to me, and she said, ‘I got off because he was beating me, but ‘Gunpowder and Lead’ saved my life.’”

“I was like, ‘what?’”

“She goes, ‘I shot him. I shot his ass.’”

“I was, like, ‘That’s a lot! It’s just a meet-and-greet… it wasn’t meant to be taken literally.”

And for better or for worse, Miranda knew she was starting to connect with people.

The rest is history.
