Throwback To Whitey Morgan Calling Out The East Nashville Hipsters Playing Merle Haggard Songs “Just To Get Laid”

Whitey Morgan Country Music

Call ’em out.

If you’re not familiar with Whitey Morgan, he’s of the real ones.

A modern day outlaw of sorts, he’s built a career on doing it the right way, touring his ass off and not being afraid to speak his mind. But most of all, he just makes damn good honky tonk country music.

A found this video a few years back in Iowa City, Iowa, and I just had to share it again.

Before a cover of Merle Haggard’s “Swinging Doors,” the title track from Merle’s 1966 album, Whitey gave the crowd one hell of an intro, ripping to pieces the East Nashville hipsters that act like they discovered Merle Haggard.

It was nuclear powered and right on the fucking money:

“I’ve been doin’ this one for a thousand years and I recently found out that it’s cool to play Merle Haggard songs again. I would’ve become a millionaire.

I foresaw the future in East Nashville because all the hipsters now play fucking Merle Haggard songs like they just made that shit up, like they just discovered it. I get it, you’re 25 and you’re trying to get laid…

I was 25 and trying to get laid once, the difference was… I was getting laid.”

Hell yes.
