Everyone needs a good little refresher course every now and again.
Season 1 of Yellowstone aired for the first time on June 20, 2018. It is no secret that the show became an overnight sensation, and it is crazy to think the first season aired four years ago.
Taylor Sheridan has built an empire around the storyline of the historic Dutton Ranch. Over the seasons and years, the plot has contained twists, turns, heartbreak, death, love, violence, betrayal, and a whole lot of ranchin’.
We are now slightly over two months from the airing of Season 5, I thought it was appropriate to re-visit where it all began…Season 1.

The video opens with a voiceover from John Dutton:
“Since 1886, every Dutton who died is buried 300 yards from my back porch. Last long enough for your children to continue the cycle, and maybe, just maybe, the land is still theirs when a tree sprouts from you.”
Re-watching this video reminded me of many one-liners that carried so much weight throughout the other seasons and how family dynamics have changed.
When Kayce returns to the ranch, you are reminded of the rocky road that he and John Dutton have traveled to get their relationship to what it is today.
Chief Thomas Rainwater delivers cryptic lines after the cow issue about how he will erase any evidence of the Dutton lineage from the land.
Rip shows his loyalty to the Duttons from his early murders. And we are introduced to his complicated relationship with Beth Dutton….man have those two come a long long way.
Lastly, you are reminded of John Dutton’s power over his kids. Their loyalty to help protect the land seems to be unwavering.
That last statement obviously doesn’t apply to Jamie. I think we can all collectively agree that he is a bitch.
This walk down memory lane has me wanting to binge the 4 seasons before November 13th.
