Oliver Anthony has taken the music (and political) world by storm.
Becoming the first artist ever to debut at #1 with a first charting song on the Billboard Hot 100, he’s catapulted himself into the limelight with a working-class, anti-politician anthem, “Rich Men North Of Richmond.”
And while Anthony himself says the song itself was an indictment against all politicians, regardless of party, Conservatives were quick to claim this song as their own, which in turn prompted a backlash from more Liberal folks.
So much so that people started to question the legitimacy of Oliver, calling him an industry plant, which was somehow given credence when it was revealed that “Oliver Anthony” was a stage name (he explained why).
But here’s the thing… TONS of country artists use stage names.
Yep, some of your favorite country singers don’t go by their real names. Some opt to use their middle name, some came up with something out of left field (looking at you Gary LeVox), and others, well… it’s not hard to see why they found a name more suitable for the stage.
