This Pop Punk Cover Of “Wagon Wheel” Might Be The Only Acceptable Way To Listen To It Anymore

Alex Melton music

For the love of God, enough with the damn “Wagon Wheel.”

I mean, you can’t walk into a bar on Broadway without hearing 500 times an hour, there’s always some bozo at karaoke who won’t let it die, and don’t even get me started on wedding DJs…

And here’s the thing, it’s not a bad song… we’ve just been beat to the death with it for years now and it’s a become a device for punishment to my ears.

Originally written by Bob Dylan (who just wrote the chorus in 1973), and then  re-worked into the final song (added the verses) by Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show more than two decades later, it’s become one of the most recognizable songs by just about anybody anywhere… country music fan or not.

And of course, you got the ol’ Darius Rucker version which was a smash hit…

Nevertheless, I don’t think I ever want to hear “Wagon Wheel” again… unless, it’s this Blink 182-inspired punk version from YouTube music star Alex Melton.

We’ve show you a ton of Alex Melton in the past couple years… he’s the guy who’s done pop punk version of The Dixie Chicks’ “Wide Open Spaces,” he’s done pop punk covers of “Tennessee Whiskey,” and has turned numerous punk songs into more country-style covers.

And today, he’s here with a pop punk version of “Wagon Wheel,” and I’m not gonna lie, it’s the first time in a long time that I’ve heard this song and not immediately wanted to throw my entire body in front of a moving bus.

Reminiscent of a Blink 182 jam, for some reason, it just works.
