The absolutely brutal year for football fans in 2022 continues.
So far, we’ve seen Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, former Dallas Cowboys star running back Marion Barber, Baltimore Ravens legend Tony Siragusa, Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, and Arizona Cardinals defensive back Jeff Gladney pass away thus far.
Now, we can add another name to the heartbreaking list, as University of Oregon tight end Spencer Webb has passed away at the age of 22.
According to The Sacramento Bee, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to rock slides near Triangle Lake yesterday afternoon, where Webb had been hanging out. He reportedly fell and hit his head.
First responders tried to revive the man, but he never regained consciousness, and died from his injuries.
Webb started his career as a Duck in 2018, seeing action in 20 games, racking up 13 receptions for 87 yards and one touchdown.
The former Christian Brothers Academy star was expected to play a major role on the team this year, with many expecting him to start.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning expressed his sadness over the tragedy:
“So full of life in every moment of the day. Your smile and energy will be missed Spencer. I love you!”
His fellow teammate and wide receiver Isaah Crocker said:
“Shocked. Unbelievable. Unreal.”
And:
“Lost of words…love you brother. forever”
