John Moreland just released “Cheap Idols Dressed in Expensive Garbage,” the third single from his upcoming album Birds in the Ceiling.

This single follows “Ugly Faces,” and “Claim Your Prize,” as the anticipation has steadily grown for his sixth studio album’s release on July 22nd.

Deservingly so, the Tulsa, OK artist has built a reputation as one of the best songwriters in the business over the course of his career, and he has continued to live up to the accolades.

In describing the upcoming album some of the songs on it, Moreland and his team had this to say about the inspiration behind “Cheap Idols Dressed in Expensive Garbage.”

“Moreland wrote the song after a friend introduced him to a social media account that highlights pastors wearing designer clothes.

‘It feels like things just continue to get harder for working people,’ he says. ‘It’s hard to afford life these days.’”
