Stray Dog Somehow Wanders Into A Gorilla Enclosure At San Diego Zoo

Imagine living the absolute dream as a dog, wandering around a ton of zoo exhibits just happy as can be, and next thing you know, you look up and you’re face to face with a massive gorilla that’s wondering why in the hell you’re there?

That’s exactly what happened to this male shepherd at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park recently, as he wandered into the gorilla exhibit at the zoo, according to FOX 5 San Diego.

Officials believe that the dog wandered into the park on his own, and may have been a part of a group of domestic dogs running rampant in the park.

The dogs went undetected, until officials found him in the gorilla habitat around 4 PM.

Wildlife care specialists were forced to recall the two gorillas from the enclosure, so they could safely remove the dog.

Humane Society spokeswoman Nina Thompson said the Humane Society responded around 6:30 PM.

She continued:

“Our three Humane Officers were able to move in and safely leash the shepherd and bring him back to San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido Campus for evaluation.”

The dog, who they dubbed “Mighty Joe Young” (ya know, the gorilla movie?), was uninjured in the wild incident, and none of the other zoo animals were injured as well.

Thompson added:

“We are so glad no one was hurt.”

Why do I keep thinking about Anchorman, when Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone fell into the bear enclosure, when Burgundy’s dog Baxter jumped in to save them both?

Wild this kinda stuff only happens in San Diego.

Anyways, “stay classy.”
