Charles Wesley Godwin Delivers Knockout Acoustic Performance Of “Jesse”

Charles Wesley Godwin

For my money, Charles Wesley Godwin is one of the best in the business.

His most recent album, How The Mighty Fall, topped the Whiskey Riff Top 40 Country Albums of 2021 list, and now here we are almost walking into June of 2022 and I still can’t stop listening to this record.

A masterclass in Appalachian storytelling, How The Mighty Fall proves CWG to be a skilled wordsmith with a compelling, gritty delivery that is so captivating, you can’t help but be enthralled by every note.

One of the songs from the album is titled “Jesse,” which he wrote after seeing some spray-painted graffiti underneath a bridge while he was out on the run.

After reading the words “Are you thinking of me like I’m thinking of you?” under that bridge, Charles began to think about who could have written it – and why.

“I thought on those words the rest of my run and began to fantasize about who that might be about. Soon thereafter, ‘Jesse’ was started.”

And while I love the studio version, this acoustic version just hits a little different:
