On this date, back in 1952 in Poteet, Texas, The King of country music was born.

We’re talking about George Strait, the man who’s arguably the best to ever do it when it comes to country music.

The legend turned 70 years old today, so I thought it would be a good idea to celebrate by reliving the accolades he has achieved over his 46-year career.

First off, the man has wracked up a staggering 60 number one hits over his career, the most out of any artist in any genre of music.

The astonishing feat all started with “Fool Hearted Memory,” his first number one off his 1982 Strait From The Heart album, with his latest number one being “River Of Love,” off his 2008 Troubadour album.

The King also holds the record for most number one albums, gold albums, platinum albums, and multiplatinum albums in the history of country music, and is 11th in most number one albums in all other genres of music.

Also, Strait has accumulated 23 CMA Awards, the most out of any country singer ever, and won the majority of them back when the CMA Awards actually meant something.

Needless to say, King George’s music has impacted just about every country music fan on this planet, and will continue to do so ’til it’s all said and done.

Happy Birthday George, and don’t drink too much Codigo 1530 tonight.

Oh yeah, and we can’t forget how he whooped this guy’s ass in Pure Country:
