Today for the Song of the Week, we have a tune from Brandi Carlile called “Broken Horses,” which is also the title of her memoir that was released last year.
From her 2021 record In These Silent Days, the co-write the song with Phil and Tim Hanseroth also served as the second single off her seventh studio album.
It definitely has a much more upbeat, rockin’ production than we’re used to hearing from Brandi, but the song was a standout from the record, and she puts it all out there as she sings about overcoming trials in her life and coming out on the other side stronger for it.
Her live performance on Saturday Night Live from last fall is amazing, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a cooler, more effortless performer.
