Carly Pearce Brings The Fire To The CMT Awards With Her ’90s Country Jam, “Diamondback”

This one is straight outta the ’90s.

Carly Pearce took the stage at the CMT Awards last night to sing a track from her fantastic 2021 record, 29: Written In Stone, and it was easily one of the best performances of the night.

If you missed the show (and you probably did… I don’t blame you), she sang “Diamondback,” which was written by Carly, Kelsea Ballerini, Tofer Brown and Shane McAnally.

She had pyro going off on the stage, and brought every bit of sass she had to deliver this fiery (pun very much intended) breakup anthem abut how her ex can have anything he wants in the wake of their divorce… except the diamond ring he gave her.

It’s a little bit scorned and petty as hell, and I love absolutely everything about the song and Carly’s performance here. And she did it all in a killer white mini dress with gold fringe and boots, might I add.

Carly had more stage presence in this three minutes than almost all of the other performers did combined for the whole night:

And I know no one really gives a flying shit about the CMT Awards, because I only tuned in to watch Carly, Miranda Lambert and Cody Johnson, so this about sums it up:

Can we really not do any better than that excuse for an award show as a genre?

I digress…

CoJo also took the outside stage on Lower Broadway to sing his recent #1 hit “‘Til You Can’t”, which was also a highlight:
