Tyler Childers And Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir Sing Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried”

In case you missed it, Tyler Childers teamed up with the great Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead last night at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for night two of the 50th anniversary concert celebration of Weir’s debut solo album, Ace.

Released in 1972, the album includes nearly every member of the Grateful Dead, and boasts studio recordings of live hits like “Playing in the Band,” “Black-Throated Wind,” and “One More Saturday Night.”

Another hit from the album includes “Greatest Story Ever Told,” which Childers performed with Weir and his band the Wolf Bros. on night one.

With that being said, the duo also played one of the most iconic songs in country music history last night, Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried.” The Grateful Dead covered Merle songs pretty often throughout their career, including songs like “Mama Tried,” “Sing Me Back Home” and even “Okie From Muskogee” a time or two.

Bob is also a well known country fans, publicly sharing his love of classic country artists like Merle as well as Buck Owens, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and more.

Talk about a music legend, and a legend in the making teaming up to sing one of the most recognizable country songs to date.

If you’re wanting to watch tonight’s performance, you’re in luck.
