Whiskey Riff Song Of The Week: “Morgan Street” By Turnpike Troubadours

David McClister

Happy Monday, y’all.

Today for the Whiskey Riff Song of the Week, we have a deep cut from the Turnpike Troubadours’ 2012 record Goodbye Normal Street, titled “Morgan Street.”

That album peaked at #14 on the Billboard U.S. Top Country albums chart, with “Morgan Street” being a write from bassist RC Edwards.

It tell the story of a ragtag group of revelers who either have better days behind them or probably won’t amount to much outside of being the Saturday night bar stars that they are. But the allure of Saturday night on Morgan Street helps them escape reality for a night and hang on to all of their dreams… whether it’s being an actress or playing in a band.

And of course, the entire scene is narrated by a self-described “Wallflower” just taking it all in.

Hearing the song hits a little bit different now knowing that the band will officially be back together in just a couple short weeks, when they reunite on stage at Cain’s Ballroom for back-to-back shows in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

And that accordion though? Gotta love it.
