Willie Nelson said goodbye to his longtime pianist and sister, Bobbie Nelson, yesterday.

A staple of The Family, Willie’s band from 1973 on, Bobbie was an integral part of Willie Nelson’s iconic sound and can be heard on legendary albums like The TroublemakerShotgun Willie, Red Headed Stranger, Phases and Stages, and more.

Willie took to Instagram (his team rather) to pay tribute to her with the following statement:

“Bobbie Nelson, Beloved Pianist, Musician, and Author, Passes Away

AUSTIN, Texas (March 10, 2022) — From The Nelson Family: Bobbie Nelson passed away this morning, peacefully and surrounded by family. Bobbie was 91.

Her elegance, grace, beauty and talent made this world a better place. She was the first member of Willie’s band, as his pianist and singer.

Our hearts are broken and she will be deeply missed. But we are so lucky to have had her in our lives. Please keep her family in your thoughts and give them the privacy they need at this time.”

She released her debut solo album Audiobiography in 2007.

She also collaborated with her brother Willie on two books that they wrote together, one being a memoir titled, Me and Sister Bobbie: True Tales of The Family Band.

And the other, a children’s book called, Sister, Brother, Family: An American Childhood in Music.

Last year, Willie also released a collaborative album titled, The Willie Nelson & Family, featuring his sons Lukas and Micah, his daughter, Paula and Amy, as well as his sister Bobbie.

Rest in Peace Bobbie.
