When the Green Bay Packers’ 2021 season ended, there was a ton of uncertainty of what would happen to quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Many thought that he would retire, and many thought he would end up on a different team, and it honestly felt like a miracle that he played for the Packers at all this past season, considering his borderline boycott of the team last summer.
However, it appears that the man isn’t going anywhere anytime soon…
And he’s getting PAID.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Packers and Rodgers have agreed on a mind boggling four-year, $200 million deal that would make him the highest paid player in NFL history.
He also gets an insane $153 million guaranteed, and his cap number goes down.
The #Packers and MVP QB Aaron Rodgers have agreed to terms on a 4-year, $200M deal that makes him the highest paid player in NFL history, sources say. He gets a whopping $153M guaranteed and his cap number goes down. A monstrous commitment by GB for years to come. 💰 💰 💰

Rapoport also noted that the decision came after Rodgers highly considered retirement, and even considered joining the Denver Broncos.
This was no easy decision. Rodgers considered retirement and the #Broncos. In the end, the #Packers get it done. They commit to Aaron Rodgers for many years. https://t.co/4Mf7rcmHej

This will also mean that Jordan Love, the next quarterback hailed to be the starter in Green Bay, will have to wait quite a bit longer before he gets his chance to shine.
I’d say it’s a pretty bold strategy to fork out this kind of money, considering Rodgers is 38 and is getting closer and closer to retirement.
However, the man keeps proving year in and year out that he’s just as good as he was when he took over the Green Bay starting job in 2009.
