Cody Johnson Pulls Off Phenomenal Acoustic Rendition Of “Travelin’ Soldier”

Cody Johnson has been killing it over the past month with these weekly full band acoustic performance videos.

First it was “Dear Rodeo,” then Gary Stewart’s hit “She’s Actin’ Single,” last week it was one of his OG mainstream hits, “On My Way to You,” and needless to say, the man’s done it again this week.

This time around, he pulled off a fantastic rendition of “Travelin’ Soldier,” a song that was originally recorded by Bruce Robison back in 1996, and made popular by The Dixie Chicks in 2002.

The song has been covered by a number of artists following the original release, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon, as Johnson and his band nearly perfected it.

I’m a huge fan of these full band live acoustic performances, because it places so much more emphasis on the instruments that make the song great to begin with, the songwriting, and the vocal, all of which can sometimes get lost in overproduction at the studio.

We’re talkin’ steel guitar, fiddle, multiple acoustic guitars, drums, and that gritty voice of CoJo.
