Tim McGraw & His Father Tug McGraw Star In Glorious Early 2000s Bud Light Commercial

Man, they just don’t make commercials like they used to.

I was taking a deep dive into the vaults, and discovered a hidden gem from way back in 2000, that’s been lost in time…

A Bud Light commercial, featuring no other than Tim and Tug McGraw.

This was back when Tim was one of the hottest names in country music, boasting fresh hits like “Indian Outlaw,” “Don’t Take The Girl,” “I Like It, I Love It,” “Where The Green Grass Grows,” and so many others.

These days, Tim seems to make more headlines on the screen than on the radio, as he’s the star of the Yellowstone prequel series, 1883, but the man was killing it in his prime.

Although… perhaps his dad was more famous? At least to one police officer…

In the commercial, a police officer pulls over a tour bus, and sees Tim sitting in the driver’s seat.

The officer says:

“Well well well, looks like we’ve got a celebrity here… you’re Tug McGraw’s kid!”

He proceeds to say:

“So you’re a bus driver, huh? Well, not everybody can have an arm like Tug.”

That’s when Tug makes his appearance, smiling ear to ear.

The commercial was released only four years before Tug’s death after a battle with brain cancer.

It’s also cool to see the father and son having a good time together, because Tim had no clue that Tug was his father until age 11, as he originally did not claim Tim, as he was afraid fatherhood would interfere with his successful baseball career as pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Once Tim discovered the news, he finally had the chance to meet his father when the Phillies came to Houston that same year.

However, the two never became close until Tim turned 18.
