Naomi Cooke is stepping down as the lead singer of Runaway June.

She announced the news in a lengthy post on Instagram this morning, saying that while she will miss her bandmates and being apart of the band, she’s looking forward to pursuing a solo career in country music:

“I am incredibly excited to officially be able to announce that I am taking a new musical journey as a solo artist, and I am beyond excited to share new stories and music with you.

It has been 7 wonderful years as the lead singer of Runaway June, and I am so grateful for the memories and time well spent with my bandmates, Hannah, Jen and Natalie.

It has been extremely hard to keep quiet about what I’ve been up to, and I cannot wait to share everything with you all very soon!! I miss you guys so much, and can’t wait to see y’all out on the road.

I love you guys so much I could burst.”

While I’m a huge fan of the girl band and hate to see this happen, Naomi is an extremely talented artist, and I’m excited to see what she has up her sleeve next in terms of her next endeavor.

There’s no news yet on if and when they’ll announce a new member, or what Runaway June’s specific plans are for the future, but I (and many of their fans) am certainly sad to see her go.

Naomi founded the band in 2015 with Jennifer Wayne and Hannah Mulholland, but Hannah left in 2020 and was replaced by Natalie Stovall.

“We Were Rich” will still forever be one of my favorite songs, though:
