Morgan Wallen Covers Chris Stapleton’s “Whiskey & You” At Madison Square Garden

Morgan Wallen country music

For my money, “Whiskey & You” is one of the best songs that Chris Stapleton has ever released.

Written by Chris Stapleton and Lee Thomas Miller, it was originally cut by Tim McGraw for his 2007 album, Let It Go, and then later released on Aaron Lewis’ 2016 album, Sinner.

It’s been recorded by Jason Eady in 2014, and finally by Chris Stapleton himself for his 2015 album, Traveller.

He called it one of the better songs he’d ever been a part of:

“This was a title brought into a writing session by my dear friend Lee Miller. The title wrote the song in my opinion. It was an album cut on a Tim McGraw record.

I always thought it was one of the better songs I had been a part of so I decided to play it out. Over time it became a song that I was rarely allowed to leave the stage without singing.

We went through several versions of recording this song until I finally decided it was best to present it in its original form: me, a guitar and one microphone.”

Can’t say I disagree…

Earlier this week, Morgan Wallen kicked off his Dangerous Tour at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and towards the end of the show, treated fans to a cover of the Stapleton fan favorite.

“I was about to be on my last song but I just wanna keep singing… you guys are awesome so I’m gonna stay for a couple more songs.

I don’t know the last time we sang this song… we’ve definitely not practiced it, but it’s one of my favorite songs.”

With Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” being one of Morgan’s most popular songs, he might want to get into the studio with “Whiskey & You” as well.
