Bump on the head? Not so fast…

After the tragic news that legendary comedian and actor Bob Saget passed away in hit hotel room at the age of 65, the next logical question was, “well, what happened?”

It was revealed last week that he had a noticeable bruise on the back of his head, and that he passed away due to a brain bleed. Meaning he likely hit his head, went to sleep, and never woke up.

His family released the following statement:

“Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us. The authorities have determined that Bob passed away from head trauma.

They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.

As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”

But according to the New York Times, the autopsy report was much more severe.

Saget had multiple fractures in his skull and severe head trauma that required immediate medical attention:

Dr. Joshua Stephany, the chief medical examiner of Orange and Osceola counties in Florida, says it was most likely a very serious fall.

“It is most probable that the decedent suffered an unwitnessed fall backwards and struck the posterior aspect of his head.”

He added that the impact was so severe that most likely Bob was confused, concussed, and perhaps unconscious:

“I doubt he was lucid and doubt he thought, ‘I’m just going to sleep this off.’”

However, Dr. Gavin Britz, the chair in neurosurgery at Houston Methodist, said the trauma was consistent with a much more serious accident.

He had fractures to the back, side, and front of his skull:

“This is significant trauma. This is something I find with someone with a baseball bat to the head, or who has fallen from 20 or 30 feet.”

Absolutely tragic.

RIP to America’s favorite TV dad, and comedian.

Bob’s wife Kelly shared this touching tribute to her late husband last week:

And in honor of the great Bob Saget, here’s one of the dirtiest jokes you’ll probably ever hear.
