Kacey Musgraves Honors The Great Dolly Parton With Cover Of “9 To 5”

Kacey Musgraves can still do country like nobody’s business when she wants to.

Though her most recent album, Star-Crossed, was a far cry from her previous studio albums, Same Trailer Different Park and Pageant Material, in almost every way… she’s still honoring her country queen out on tour.

At the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia last night, she covered Dolly Parton’s classic hit “9 to 5” after she let a fan in the crowd choose from four options, saying:

“There is a fan here that’s been, literally, a day one. Her name is Jen the Hen, everybody show her some love, she’s right here in the front.

She’s literally, you came to some of the very first shows ever… her sign says ’10 years of shows with you’. That’s amazing, wow! Okay, so Jen, I really want you to pick the song. Here are your choices… don’t fuck this up Jen, we’re counting on you.

Four? She wants number four? Shit, I knew it, I knew it! Alright, this is for you, Jen. I’ve never sang this before, this is for you, here we go.”

Of course, Dolly wrote the original #1 hit for the iconic film of the same name that she co-starred in with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in 1980, and it’s become one of her most popular and beloved songs. And she did so using her acrylic nails, which you will definitely want to read about here.

Even though Kacey said she’s never performed the song live at a show before, she did a pretty kickass job:
