Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings Performing “There Ain’t No Good Chain Gang” Is As Good As It Gets

Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.

Just saying their names has some weight to it. Both men gave so much to country music throughout their careers, it’s difficult to fully grasp the impact.

There were quite a few times the two shared a stage and as you can imagine, the performances were quite incredible. But performing “There Ain’t No Good Chain Gang,” live from Johnny’s The First 25 Years television special in 1980 has to be one of their finest moment.

“There Ain’t No Good Chain Gang” was the lead single from Johnny Cash’s 1978 album I Would Like To See You Again and peaked at Number 2 on the Country Music charts in the same year. The album featured two collaborations with Waylon Jennings, this one and “I Wish I Was Crazy Again”.

Just a good ole fashioned country song about calling mama and papa from prison and telling them all you’ve been learning on the inside…

It just doesn’t get any better.

Two of the finest to evert step foot on a stage… I could watch videos likes this all damn day.
