It’d be hard to find a stage with more talent on it than this one…
In October of 1980, three of the most iconic country singers to ever walk the earth stood on the same stage and performed to thousands in beautiful Anaheim Stadium in California.
Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Johnny Paycheck teamed up to close out a six hour festival that also included Alabama and Emmylou Harris.
Willie is in full form, rocking a retro Houston Astros jersey, braids and beard, Johnny Paycheck looks like he’s had a sniff or two of something, and Merle… is just doing Merle.
One thing that country is known for is the way most stars got along and played with each other often, creating legendary moments like this that continue to live on even today.
Although, it did have to be a little weird for Willie to be up there joining in on “Okie From Muskogee,” considering the whole “we don’t smoke marijuana thing” but hey, it just added a little comedy to the moment.
