On This Date: Hank Williams Jr., Reba, Willie Nelson & More Were Topping The Charts With A Remake Of “Mind Your Own Business”

Hank Williams Jr.

Hank Williams Jr. is one of the few people who can do a Hank Williams song justice. Then again, he is his son…

On this date back in 1986, he was topping the charts with a remake of “Mind Your Own Business,” which was also a solo write from Hank Sr. way back in 1949.

The rumor is that it was likely inspired by Hank Sr.’s often tumultuous relationship with his wife, Audrey.

Hank Jr. recorded it with some of the best of the industry featuring on the new version of the track, including Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Reba, and Reverend Ike.

With so much star power on one song, it’s not hard to believe that this version was the most successful out of the many covers by people like Jimmy Dean, Ernest Tubb, and Charley Pride. It was at #1 on the country charts for two straight weeks.

Just a bunch of musical legends on one kickass tune, paying homage to one of the godfathers of country music… gotta love it.
