On This Date: George Strait Releases His 10th #1 Single “Ocean Front Property” In 1986

On this date 35 years ago, George Strait released his #1 hit, “Ocean Front Property”.

Written by Dean Dillon, Hank Cochran and Royce Porter, it was released as the first single and title track from his album of the same name back in 1986.

It also gave him his tenth #1 hit on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs chart.

Funny enough though, the three writers didn’t even think it had much potential as a single when they wrote it.

But, what they didn’t know at the time, is that King George had come up with an interweaving fiddle/steel guitar pattern while flying from Texas back to Nashville the day before the writing session where the penned “Ocean Front Property”.

So, needless to say, he ended up loving the song after they put all of that together, so much so that he used it as the lead single for the aforementioned record that debuted at #1 on the Billboard U.S. Top Country Albums chart the following year.

It’s still one of his most iconic songs to this day, and I’m glad George saw the potential it had because it’s still a fan-favorite from The King:
