Iowa High School Basketball Player Sucker Punches Opponent During Postgame Handshake

High school basketball rivalries can get pretty wild.

When you’re 16, 17 years old… high school is life, high school sports is life, and nothing is more sacred than that name on the front of the jersey. Eventually, most of us grow up and realize there’s a whole big world out there beyond the halls of the high school, but in the moment, it’s all you know.

And as an athlete, you probably grew up playing rec ball and travel ball against kids from other high schools, and those rivalries go back all the way to middle school… there’s bound to be some bad blood.

However, this kid from Carlisle High School in Iowa took it WAY over the top.

Carlisle was playing against Nevada, and needless to say, they got a good ol’ fashioned ass whoopin’, losing the game 72-47.

I’m guessing this Carlisle player got his feelings hurt for getting absolutely obliterated on the court, so when the teams got in line to shake hands, he decided to beat the sh*t out of one of the players.

After a couple of brutal sucker punches, the victim’s teammate from Nevada finally jumped on the Carlisle player and put it to a stop, but the damage had already been done.

According to the Des Moines Register, there is still no indication of the motive for the fight, but the victim had a serious concussion after he was knocked unconscious, and he also needed four stitches.

The Nevada superintendent said:

“It’s a very unfortunate situation. I’m happy they deescalated it. I thought our coaches and staff handled it well and got everyone out of there without it worsening.”

I’m always a sucker for a good fight or two, but there’s just no place for this in the game.

And unfortunately for the kid, hiss career in sports is over before it ever had a chance to get started… over some high school bullshit.

Sad…
