Carly Pearce And Ashley McBryde Bring Their Classic Country Cheatin’ Song, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” To The CMAs

Thank the good Lord, at least a few artists brought some actual country music to the CMA Awards last night.

Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde sang their current single “Never Wanted To Be That Girl”, and of course, it was stellar. They’re two of the best vocalists in the game right now, and Carly even took home Female Vocalist of the Year award in what was one of the highlights of the night.

The song is as country as it gets, and tells the story of two women who are both unaware that they’re being cheated with or on by the same guy, and as time goes on, eventually figure out that the man they thought they were in love with is being unfaithful.

In the song and music video, Carly is the wife of the man who happens to randomly meet Ashley when he helps her change a flat tire in a Citgo parking lot. From there, he pursues a relationship with Ashley all while keeping it a secret that he’s actually married.

Of course, no little girl ever grows up dreaming about being in a situation like that, and they did such a fabulous job telling the story in their recent music video.

Last night, with Ashley dressed in an all-black outfit and Carly in a stark white dress, they delivered a passionate, knockout performance of one of the best songs I’ve heard in a while:
