Billy Strings Donates Over 200 Guitars To Kids In His Hometown

Billy Strings Country Music

When it’s all said and done, Billy Strings may go down as one of the most innovative bluegrass pickers to every pick up a guitar.

I didn’t realize just how good ol’ Billy was until I watched him live, and the stuff he can do with a piece of woods and some strings is simply out of this world.

But before he was Billy Strings, he was William Apostol, growing up in tiny Ionia County, Michigan.

It’s the town that shaped him into the man he is today, and now, he’s ready to give back.

According to MLive, Strings went back to his former elementary school, Muir Elementary, in between his shows in Chicago and Philadelphia, speaking to the kids about how much his hometown meant to him.

And what did he do next?

He proceeded to gift all of the kids with free guitars, over 200 of them:

For him, it was the guitar that changed his life at a young age. Perhaps one of these guitars can do the same for another kid from Michigan.

“My guitar has always been there for me. Through good times, bad times and everything in between. The guitar has taken me places that I could only dream of.

My hope is that one of these guitars does the same thing for one of these kids. I look forward to coming back and seeing how these future musicians progress for years to come.”

You can see the genuine happiness and the excitement on the kid’s faces when he delivered the news.

Well done Billy, well done.
