Alec Baldwin Defends The Working Conditions On Set Of ‘Rust’

Alec Baldwin

There’s been a lot of noise circulating about the working conditions and safety measures on the set of Rust, after Alec Baldwin accidentally killed cinemaphotographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun.

However, Baldwin and other people who were on set are ready to clear the air, and have made some comments disputing the reports of bad working conditions, according to the New York Post.

The actor shared several screenshots of messages from Teresa Magpale Davis, who worked in the wardrobe department for the movie.

In the screenshots, Davis writes:

“I’m so sick of this narrative. I worked on this movie. The story being spun of us being overworked and surrounded by unsafe, chaotic working conditions is bullshit.”

She noted that the crew never worked shifts more than 12.5 hours, and most days were under 12.

“The day Halyna died we had come off of a 12-hour turnaround after an 11 hour shoot day. We had (Including camera) gotten off by 6:30 PM.

We had just had a 56 hour weekend right before that. No one was too tired to do their jobs. This is provable by daily timesheets.”

There had also been previous statements made that the crew could no longer stay in hotels, which Davis debunked:

“The camera crew HAD hotels. They just didn’t feel they were fancy enough. They were given hotels. Half of them didn’t use them even when the hotels were nicer because we were getting off so early each night.”

And our set was only 35 minutes from Albuquerque. Santa Fe is an hour from Albuquerque, but the set was 25 minutes south of that. So they aren’t even traveling that far to go home.

She also stated that the set was safe, despite the rumors that some union members walked off the set due to safety concerns before the fatal shot was fired.

“Our AD never seemed flippant about safety.

Am I angry with him? Yes. But I won’t jump on the bandwagon and pretend he was uncaring about our safety the whole way through.”

She also proceeded to defend head armorer Hannah Guitierrez-Reed, who has been criticized for her lack of experience. Baldwin has also defended her too.

“I’ll fight to have our armorers have higher standards they must pass to be in that position where they hold all of our lives in their hands.

But I’m not okay with using her to be the poster child for better hours. Maybe you could just not be on more person with a pitchfork in a mob that has no idea what you’re talking about because you weren’t there.”

Alec shared the full message in a series of Instagram posts:

He also recently broke his silence on the shooting, talking with paparazzi on the side of the road in Vermont:
