The former 49ers quarterback hasn’t been in the NFL since 2016, and he just released his own documentary with Netflix, titled Colin In Black and White.
I’ll be the first to say I don’t know much about the documentary thus far, and will watch it in its entirety before making a judgement on the whole film, but a small clip from the show has thrown Twitter in a frenzy.
In the clip, you hear Kaepernick compare the NFL to slavery, as NFL coaches put you through a bunch of exercises and tests to see if you have what it takes to make it into the league. While he describes it, the video of a few football players transforms into a slave auction.
“What they don’t want you to understand is what’s being established is a power dynamic.
Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod, and examine you.
Searching for any defect that might affect your performance. No boundary respected. No dignity left intact.”
Needless to say, several people on Twitter went off on Kaepernick, who’s made millions and millions of dollars in the NFL, while also pointing out that Kap has been trying to get back into the NFL for years.
Kaepernick spent half a decade crying that NFL teams wouldn’t give him a shot and now he’s decided that actually being an NFL player is like being a slave.
This dude is the most obvious and shameless con artist in modern American history.
Only in America can a black millionaire hire script writers, actors, directors, producers, wardrobe consultants, make-up artists, film crew personnel, and reserve an entire stadium to whine about how oppressive it was for him to become a black millionaire in America. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 https://t.co/UyBzxmi9mA
AHT AHT AHT…Colin Kaepernick…you was thirsty AF to try out for any team that would have you, you had Spike Lee all in the mix but now that nobody wants you, NOOOOWWWW NFL training camps are like "slavery"??? AIGHT MAN
Colin Kaepernick, who made tens of millions of dollars working for the NFL and several more million from company whose products are made by slaves compares the NFL to slavery. And he’s given a national platform to do it. Does it get any dumber?
Literally every person who ever lived in slavery, serfdom, or even indentured servitude – and we're talking hundreds of millions or billions in world history – would gladly trade that life for Colin Kaepernick's life. https://t.co/QJZawjhX5C
