Jake Owen Shares Throwback Soundcheck Cover Of Waylon Jennings’ “Lonesome On’ry And Mean”

You may know him as the party music beach guy, but when he gets the feeling Jake Owen can sure dig into some country classics.

Jake’s still taking it easy, only playing a few shows in the post-COVID return to concerts, but the other day he shared a throwback video of him covering Waylon Jennings’ “Lonesome On’ry And Mean” during a soundcheck and my goodness does he sound good.

I know Jake wasn’t always only the flip-flops and tank tops guy (his first album had a super country sound with hits like “Yee Haw,” “8 Second Ride,” and one of my all-time favorites “Starting With Me”) but it still caught me a little off guard to hear the Vero Beach, Florida native belting Waylon with some strong vocals.

Come on with it Jake, give us more of that!

I live in Florida, so of course I appreciate some beach music to play while drinking on a boat, but this just has so much soul I’d love to hear him put out another record more in this vein.

What you say, Jake? We’re all in.
