Alabama High School Football Player Surprised By Army Dad Dressed As A Referee During Coin Toss

These military homecoming videos are hands down my favorite thing about the internet.

This one comes to us from Helena, Alabama, just outside of Birmingham.

Before Helena High School’s freshman team football game against Hueytown High School, Fred Grooms walked to midfield with his teammates for the pregame coin toss.

After the referee told the players to get a good look at the officials’ faces to “know ’em good,” the 9th grader quickly recognized a face that he knew VERY well: His father, who had been deployed with the U.S. Army for the past year.

The father and son shared a long hug at midfield, but didn’t have much time to celebrate as Grooms got back to business.

What a great moment. Thank you for your service, Mr. Grooms, and welcome home.
