Ashley McBryde On Underappreciated Tyler Childers: “There’s No Reason He Shouldn’t Be Played On Country Radio”

A man and woman sitting together

PREACH.

Miranda Lambert and Ashley McBryde recently sat down with the Los Angeles Times to talk everything from making music during COVID, Garth’s “bullshit” win (as Miranda phrased it) over Carrie Underwood at the CMA Awards, and more, but then, the two CMA nominees were posed with a pretty straightforward question:

“Who’s underappreciated in Nashville right now?”

And while they probably could’ve spent an hour on that question, Ashley McBryde said the same name that immediately popped into my mind (aside from her own).

“Tyler Childers. He’s as country as a homemade sock, so there’s no reason he shouldn’t be played on country radio. He’s got the beard, the only thing missing is the ball cap.”

Miranda in agreement added another name to the list:

“Elle King is another one. I don’t know what the hell kind of genre she is, but I love it.”

Can I get an amen?

Underappreciated is one way to put it. Fucking embarrassing would be another.

I can’t tell you the amount of conversations I’ve had with folks in the country music industry… I’m talking people that work at major labels, people that work in mainstream country radio, and even other artists in the industry that have never even heard of him.

And sure, does country radio play a lot of actual country music? Not really, but to not even know who the man is? It’s downright absurd.

Either way, if you’re a fan of country music, one that actually cares about the sanctity of the genre, you gotta love Ashley’s shoutout Tyler Childers. Of course Miranda has also shown support for Tyler as well.

She was sidestage for one of his shows in Texas and has also recently shared a video of her and her husband listening to “Whitehouse Road” while frying chicken.
